About Us
A Data Scientist currently engaged full time with a Fortune 100 company, and a ( very much part time ) PhD student in theoretical and computational physics taking, like the fellow in Aerosmith, some extra time to finish the PhD in order to make a mark in ( machine learning modeling related ) entertainment, SpartanTutors' owner Anthony Graybosch has taught and tutored since 2002. Anthony was inspired to start SpartanTutors when, while delaying, for five minutes, replying to an email from a student seeking help with MCAT physics in order to (shamefully) finish eating a sandwich, he received a phone call from the owner of a larger test prep company offering him the opportunity to help that same student, who had just committed to the larger company for twice what Anthony would have charged her to work with him. The memory of the ruined sandwich interval informs SpartanTutors' business model - subject matter and standardized exam experts who work with us are paid 85% of the revenue associated with their labor. Many of those who work with SpartanTutors simply would not work with other tutoring and test prep companies; our tutors and instructors are motivated by their own ethics and by their positive relationship with us to work very hard to help our students. Anthony sees the high school and university environment as offering tremendous potential benefits to students, but also containing traps that should not, but do, exist. As time has passed and Anthony has had children and watched them encounter the educational system this perception has been reaffirmed. To help students do well and avoid snares and pitfalls Anthony makes certain SpartanTutors' only contracts with teachers and tutors who are student-centered, egalitarian, and completely competent in the foundations of their disciplines. An ordered world is not the world's order but is unfortunately still an ordered world; we want to hep you to succeed regardless of any obstacles, structural or otherwise, that lie before you.
We welcome inquiries from individuals who feel qualified to teach with us. During the pandemic, we will offer no in-person services, and we will offer no fee-for-service services to pre-College-aged students. A free workshop for younger students is advertised on our web page.
